Is mca "mac"? Just for clarity :) otherwise I will be googling what an mca is for a little while ;)

You think this is possibly permissions changing when travis clones the repo, maybe component.json not getting write permission? Is it possible to SSH in and check this?

Tried opening permissions all the way up just to see, doesn't fix the problem actually seems to make things worse: https://travis-ci.org/componentjs/component/jobs/43424742

Tests pass on my mac but all sorts of strange errors in that build

Ops, yes - I meant mac
I think the problem is because the repo has no github auth token
