Is it possible to make a skin for DF? #6

I'm curious if it would be possible to make graphical skins for DF. For example, it'd be interesting if the graphics were 3D (f.e. 3D planets with orbiting particles, etc). Nothing about the gameplay would change, it would just be an alternative graphical skin.
