Describe the bug

Darktable crashes ~20s after starting w/o doing anything (not touching keyboard or mouse). Issue occurrs with DT 4.8.0 and 4.8.1. The crash does not happen if you set backthumbs_mipsize to never. In that case I can use both lightable, map & darkroom, but do observe more frequent crashes than with previous versions (say several / hour of work).

Steps to reproduce

Start darktable (either from CLI or through launcher
Do nothing
DT crashes after ~20s

Expected behavior

DT should stay alive

Please provide additional context if applicable. You can attach files too, but might need to rename to .txt or .zip

Issue appears both with 4.8.0 and 4.8.1, both when having a set of (large) raw-files or small jpeg images on the lighttable. Crash even occurrs when the lighttable is empty (start DT using --conf backthumbs_mipsize=never, use collection to filter such that no images remain, exit DT, restart DT using --conf backthumbs_mipsize=1080p).

No use of Lua. Issue does not occurr when starting DT with empty configuration; work on pixls.us (https://discuss.pixls.us/t/darktable-is-suddenly-crashing-without-warning/44545/66) has identified that this goes back to the value of the backthumbs_mipsize parameter
