Packer development for Windows systems requires Windows automated installation via Autounattend.xml files. These files are extremely specific to OS versions, architectures, etc. IOT prevent development inefficiencies and allow proper integration of unattended installation steps with Packer build steps the following environment should be accessible to developers:

  • Ubuntu dev box with Packer Installed
  • Windows desktop dev box with WSIM installed
  • Access to specific required Windows ISOs
  • External network access
  • Internal network access between the ubuntu and windows dev boxes (be able to transfer the generated autounattend.xml from windows to ubuntu)
