This install guide assumes that the setup will done via an Ubuntu enabled PC with access to root privileges.
The Jetson Nano setup will proceed in headless mode.
I recommend using an endurance SD Card UHS U3, V30 or higher, Class 10.
- The official intro to the board can be found here.
- To power the Jetson Nano get a power supply that can delliver (at least) 3A at 5V that has:
- 2.1 Barel Jack output for Jetson Nano B01 or higher
- USB-C Type output for Jetson Nano A02
- To configure the Jetson Nano to be powered via the 2.1 barel jack connector you'll need to have a jumper.
- To connect to the Jetson Nano in headless mode you will need a micro USB cable.
- Download the latest official Nvidia image from here
- Install Balena Etcher on your Ubuntu PC by following the instructions here
- Plug-in your micro SD Card into the PC
- Fire up Etcher, chose the image you downloaded in step 4 and select your micro SD Card as the target (e.g. /dev/mmcblk0).
- Click Flash, enter the root password and let Etcher do its thing.
- Unmount the SD Card from the PC.
- To check if the SD Card is properly umounted do the following:

The listing under your SD Card associated device should not have any mount points associated with it. In my case the mmcblk0
does not show any mount points for any of the partitions (p1 through p14).
- Un-plugh the SD Card from the PC and plug it in the Jetson Nano. The Nano should be powered off when you do this.
- Plug-in the jumper in the J48 port (located above the barel jack connector - on its right - for Jetson Nano B01 or below the camera connector for Jetson Nano A02).
- Plug-in the micro USB cable in the Jetson Nano and the PC
- Plug-in the USB C or 2.1 barel jack connector.
- Plug-in the power supply into the mains.
- At this point the nano will boot up and it will take from 1 to 5 minutes to display something.
- Install the
screen
utility on the PC:
sudo apt install screen
- Make sure your PC user has tty access privileges:
sudo usermod -a -G dialout $USER
- Logout and then login for the changes to take effect (Yes, you can also reboot with prefer that).
- Login into the Jetson Nano to do the initial configuration via screen utility:
screen /dev/ttyACM0 115200
- Press Space, then Enter and wait for the text menu to appear. If it does not appear after 5 minutes un-plug the power form Jetson Nano. Wait 30 seconds and re-plug the Jetson Nano power source and repeat step 21. If the trouble persits re-flash the SD Card and repeat from step 12.
- Press "Ok" in the System Configuration menu that appears (you can navigate with TAB, select with ENTER):

to succeed in the network autoconfiguration you'll need to go to your PC Settings->Network->Profile Settings icon and configure the ipv4 and ipv6 to the "Shared to other computers" option. The go back to the nano and hit "Retry network autoconfiguration". If not you can restart the tutorial and use an ehternet cable connected to your router. -
Next configure an unique name for the localhost (especially if you're goinging to use multiple nano's) or have other devices on your network:

- Let the system do it's thing and do not un-plug the Nano. The nano will reboot it-self when it finishes and you can try to ssh into it by:

- First, install your ssh public key such that we can work easier with the Nano:

- Some software packages, especially the CUDA software, requires a gcc, g++ and clang version 8. However verion 8 and 9 of these toolchains have some bugs relating to the optimization options for arm achitectures (i.e. aarch64) like found in rpi and jetson nano. So, to get around various diffrent problems when compilation is required, all toolchains must be available:

- Remove no longer required packages:
sudo apt autoremove
- Finally, reboot:
sudo reboot
