Preserve versions when updating DPV

How to preserve versions of DPV updates so that they are accessible? E.g. access v0.1 when v0.2 is published. Possibilities:

1. Create a folder versions and store the versioned documents in there as v0.1 and v0.2
2. Create a separate repository for storing versions (archives)
3. Use GitHub releases (will only provide zips and tags, but not accessible web pages)

IMO the 1st option is most preferred because it provides the advantage of having access to prior versions.
