Placeholder text returning to default

I have a small issue with the placeholder text being reset t0o the default NMessenger after dismissing the keyboard

I set the default placeholder text with
inputBarView.textInputView.text = "Enter a message..."

When loading the view this displays fine, but if you click into the text field then dismiss the keyboard it reverts to "NMessenger"
