Right now, writing a queries implies a pretty good understanding of the fields available in the index. It is not very intuitive for first time users.

Can we leverage the autocomplete functionality for fields to suggest fields to build queries in the queries and filters panels?

We do not plan to implement facetted search as it would require a have large amount of field data loading and would seriously impact Elasticsearch performance.

Having some sort of query builder would make using Kibana so much more easy. Most people who use Kibana to access their logs have limited experience with Elasticsearch, therefore writing queries is not very straight forward.

Agree with @iToto. Something like the Finder smart folders on Mac would be cool. Mainly just need the ability to add/remove 'filters' with the following features: select field, match on (e.g. contains, starts with, etc), and for more than one filter have the ability to specify AND/OR. It would only be needed to create a new query, just to help write the initial query.. once the user knows the format they could probably tweak pretty easily.
