Icon mania in kibana #36413

Coloring each with a slightly transparent version of the Elastic color scheme would be nice. We don't have to focus on color coordinating app types, e.g. visualization and dashboards being the same tint, but we could do that as well. The real goal would be just to have some color breakout. This may be a quick win. One example of this would be the google logo, they kind of just randomly assigned colors to their letters, and it just works somehow. |
an option to have the menu always expanded would be very helpful in that regardas as brought up in #33328. Our people also get rather confused with the icon-only default menu. |
@ryankeairns would love to see my coloring option above as a markup, you know with just a slight tinted background on these icons, etc. :) |

Before reading this issue, let's start with a game, guess the icon:
Problem:
Why?
Possible solutions:
Grouping the solution icons to categories for example:
visualize & explore
,solutions
,admins
. The main drawback is it might not be as obvious which group a specific solution is a part ofAdd colors to solution icon so there is another visual cue to differentiate between them which is not only their shape.
Go back to open navigation where users can see the name of the application
Do nothing, Feature Control will solve this issue since there will be fewer icons in the navigation
Global search, similar to apple spotlight/ or slack
Please add if you have any other suggestions, I think this problem becomes evident with every day
