[docs] Improve cross-cluster search documentation #53244
Comments
Pinging @elastic/kibana-docs (Team:Docs) |
@bmorelli25 The cross-cluster search documentation that you initially found explains how to create an index pattern for cross-cluster search. We've created this PR to move that content into the index pattern documentation to avoid confusion. We can improve this page in the Kibana documentation to provide an example. Also, we can make this page more visible. Did you find this page through search or by navigating the TOC? Your last paragraph contains the same link to the Kibana docs in both places. Do you mean a better connection between the CCS docs in ES and the Kibana remote clusters doc? This is something we'd like to do for all docs pertaining to Elasticsearch management apps in Kibana. |
Discussed with Brandon. We should add a section like this at the end of Working with remote clusters. Create an index pattern for cross-cluster searchOnce your Elasticsearch clusters are configured for cross-cluster search, you can create specific index patterns in Kibana to search across the clusters of your choosing. Using the same syntax that you’d use in a raw cross-cluster search request in Elasticsearch, create your index pattern in Kibana with the convention :. For more information, see the index patterns documentation. |
Closing this issue as we moved the cross-cluster search docs into the ES docs for a better user experience. |
I'm attempting to set up cross cluster search for the first time, and it seems weird that the Kibana cross-cluster search documentation doesn't mention the fact that you can add a remote cluster directly in Kibana. Instead, it sent me to the ES Search across clusters page. From there, I had to click on Remote clusters and scroll halfway down the page to finally figure out how to set up a remote cluster.
Later, I found this page in the Kibana documentation, which explains how to accomplish the same thing, but directly in Kib. Once on this page though, I was linked to the CCS docs in ES, instead of the Kibana docs.
I wonder if we can improve the connection between the Kib CCS docs and the Kib remote clusters docs?
