[Canvas] [Discuss] How should Canvas use formatters?

There are a number of issues that have been filed asking for standardized use of formatters in Canvas, but I think the reason they haven't been resolved is that there's a higher-level discussion needed.

I've run into this most recently when reducing our use of numeral.js, which highlighted how Canvas uses some of the same concepts a little differently.
