As far as I can tell there is logging of http requests. I am not aware of a general practice or expectation that for such a feature one should run another piece of software like Apache or nginx. node has excellent support for clf and other types of logs. Can access logging be added. I looked at the code but was unable to understand what appears to be machine generated case statements for actions which provide no useful information to the reader.

@digitalrinaldo you can turn on verbose logging in kibana.yml, which will log all requests. Are you looking for a separate access log that contains only requests?

Yes I was. I can understand not wanting to follow some old convention in
this area, but every system with a new access log format requires more
custom work. Thanks for responding.

@elastic/kibana-operations is this something we consider as a future feature, or should we close this issue?

I'd ++ the output of an access log would help a number of users I've encountered that were looking to understand usage behaviors of Kibana similar to any webapp:

  • What are the most / least popular visualizations / dashboards?
  • Where are users coming from and what are their environments (browser type / version, OS, etc)?
  • Are there old links / bookmarks that return 404?

If that data does get logged under verbose logging, it'd be a bit of a task to separate it from the rest

I am going to close this issue as #81130 best represents what I believe this request to be, and it has the most traction. Let me know if you believe that not to be correct.
