This document outlines the estimation methodologies that electricityMap uses to create the most accurate and useful data possible.

Estimation models

  • Time Slicer Average is used for filling holes where data is missing from the provider.
  • Construct Breakdown is used to construct production breakdown for zones where real-time, hourly data is unavailable.
  • Reconstruct Breakdown is used to re-construct production breakdown for zones where the real-time hourly data we obtain from public sources is either too unreliable or incomplete to be integrated as is into electricityMap.
  • Zone specific models:

Estimated zones

For now, only specific zones are estimated, but we are constantly working on expanding the list 🌍
