In markdown on most apps, quotes require a space after the > in order to make a quote -- for example >[space]this is a quote should make a quote, but >.> should make a face. In this client >.> makes a quote of .> instead of providing the face. -- it's worth noting that \>.> works as intended for the face. -- this also adversely effects greentexts.
I suggest you subscribe to one of the issues regarding changing to a different markdown dialect, e.g element-hq/element-meta#330 (though GFM also has the same behaviour as you can try right here in Github)
