After logging in and restoring from backup a handful of messages don't get decrypted #2417

Steps to reproduce

  1. Log in fresh on EXI
  2. Verify the new login
  3. Rejoice that backup fills in
  4. ...apart from a handful of messages, for reasons unknown

Outcome

What did you expect?

Reliable E2EE

What happened instead?

Random UTDs from missing keys from backup, despite those keys very much being int he backup

this has happened two out of two times i’ve tested this flow (hence the rageshakes) - unsure it’s uncommon

I had not yet had the chance to look at the shakes, but some guidelines if someone else does so before me.

If indeed the keys are in the backup, might be due to the timeline loading the events before the backup was ready and not retrying the decryption again. That would mean that the events will get decrypted if you close the room and open it again.

Another possibility would be that there's something wrong with the keys and we didn't import them.
