ESS-DIVE Material Vocabulary We have modified the original SESAR IGSN list of materials for Environmental Systems Science (ESS) samples, using existing ontology terms from Environment Ontology (ENVO) or Plant Ontology (PO) - see definition link to ontology term details (IRI for term). Currently, you must use SESAR terms to register samples for IGSNs, and we recommend entering the more specific ESS-DIVE proposed material under "Field name (informal classification".

These adherent cells are frequently embedded within a self-produced matrix of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS). Biofilm EPS, which is also referred to as slime, is a polymeric conglomeration generally composed of extracellular DNA, proteins, and polysaccharides in various configurations.
