Would like to have the latest golangci-lint running in CI; however, there are some linter errors that need to be resolved. In particular, revive's package docs.

See #712 for an attempt to upgrade.

Hi! Is this issue still open to be worked on? My partner and I are students from UT Austin, and we were wondering if we could tackle this as a good first issue for our virtualization class?
