Hello,

I can't import account into my new phone, I always have this error: Cannot interpret QR code

Barcode Scanner can read the QR code, but not Google Authenticator.

Please fix this bug, it's very annoying and many people complain on play store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2

Need way more information on this. Starting with:

  • Where did the QR code come from?
  • Does it load correctly in other apps?
  • Can you share the QR code?

* Where did the QR code come from?

From my old phone, I followed the standard export procedure

* Does it load correctly in other apps?

I installed Google Authenticator, I scanned the QR displayed on my old phone and got the error Cannot interpret QR code on the new phone.

I tried from several distances, from a photo on the phone, from a photo on the screen on my computer, same error.

* Can you share the QR code?

Nope, sorry... there are personal and pro accounts

So this is on iphone? What version?

But also:

FYI: The version in Google Play Store / Apple App store is not the same as this opensource version. They've diverged. This opensource version is also unlikely to end up in the app stores. This open source version doesn't get much love, but I'll accept well-written pull requests. But don't expect this feature to be implemented by Google.

Oh, no you link to the google play store, so presumably some type of android?

Since this is the wrong repo twice over, I'll at least transfer this bug over to the opensource android repo.

Oh, I didn't know about these 2 versions ! My bug is on the app from the play store, not the opensource

Hi i had the same issue when trying to transfer an unnamed code (leaft the name empty when I created the code)

Old:
Android 8.0 LinageOS
Authenticator Version 5.10 (Play Store)
New:
Android 10 MIUI 12
Authenticator Version 5.10 (Also Play Store)

My issue was resolved by naming the Code in question. Hope this helps.

I have filed b/167355614 internally about the play store version not being able to transfer an unnamed code.
