Chrome spell check doesn't work in the Ace editor on Chrome Linux (at least).

Stackedit has dealt with this issue...
benweet/stackedit#273

Switching out Ace for CodeMirror (http://codemirror.net/) used to resolve this, but the latest version of CodeMirror has this issue too.
