we use mathematical vector language, but then talk about things that are not strictly vectors, so we need to clarify how things like lat/lon are captured as unit vectors in a specific frame (but with better wording)

vectorComponents means a vector in a loose sense - there is enough info here to reconstruct a directional quantity.
For example, a lat/long tuple is enough to indicate a direction (from center of Earth to surface).

Read is as vector related components.

If there is data from a 1-D model, for example, maybe only one component is present, such as r.
