Solarized profiles for the KDE Konsole application

Background

The Solarized color scheme caught my eye the other day and I thought I’d apply it to KDE’s Konsole terminal emulator.

I created just the white-on-black version for my first attempt. A black-on-white is needed as well.

Installing

Typically, you simply need to copy the Solarized.profile and Solarized.colorscheme files to your ~/.kde/share/aps/konsole/ directory. Then konsole application should present you with a Solarized option under the File -> New Tab menu.

Caveats, Notes and TODOs

  • Instead of using some of the background colors, I did go with a pure black.
  • The bold versions of the colors are the same hue, but either have a slightly higher value or saturation
  • The blue on green, as put out by ls in some cases is awful. Probably messing with the LS_COLORS environment variable is needed as well.
