Boostable and MappingBoostable seem general enough to be useful by many projects, what do you think?

Thanks! I agree, they are quite general and I do use them for other purposes outside of boostedblob. The tests are also completely independent of the rest of boostedblob.

That said, I am a little hesitant to make it its own package, because I'm not sure how much time I'd have to commit to feature requests and such. I haven't made API changes in a while, so if you want to experiment with it, it should be pretty stable — and if you do I'd be curious to hear about your experiences with it.
