Cannot apply styles to header row

Looking at this example https://henrybuilt.github.io/react-sticky-table/?path=/story/basic--basic I am unable to apply a i.e. background-color to the header row. I open the nspector, select the <div /> that is the header row and apply element styles to id (background-color: hotpink). However, nothing happens. Why is that?
