Jekyll Build Failing - theme not found

Hello, running my site over LAN, it works as expected, however it seems to fail to build with Jekyll, giving me an error about the theme. Log Output:

If you are using GitHub Pages. You should add .nojekyll to your root directory. Please see https://docs.github.com/en/pages/getting-started-with-github-pages/about-github-pages#static-site-generators

Unfortunately, this is something I've tried multiple times, and it fixes my build error, but the site still doesn't display properly like it does locally. I saw another post with a similar issue #5100 however I don't see how there is anything hardcoded into my theme config file that would be an issue.

build fixed with .nojekyll,
subsequent error: (Template render error: (unknown path) Error: Unable to call updated, which is undefined or falsey)
fixed by altering commit message in _config.yml file. Thanks for the help!
