The problem

2021.5 added support for RGBW and RGBWW lights. I tend to use RGBW LED strips with warm white chips. When I want brighter and colder light I set the light to 255,255,255,255 (RGB white + warm white). Since updating to 2021.5 this is no longer possible. I assume HA is doing math in the background to convert RGB white to a white channel value. Is there a way to bypass this?

Can you add details which devices and what integration you use for controlling the RGBW device?

I've tried both on a Shelly RGBW2 controller and WLED controller.

https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/wled

I can set 255,255,255,255 from the devices UI by setting the RGB color wheel to white and setting the white channel slider to the max.

I am one of the HA developers for the Shelly integration and I added the RGBW support for Shelly integration, I don't have WLED, so lets focus on Shelly for now.
I use RGBW2 myself with an RGBW LED strip with warm white and have no issue.
How do you set the color to 255,255,255,255? From the frontend or from a service call?
Which Shelly FW version?

Hey there @balloob, @bieniu, @chemelli74, mind taking a look at this issue as its been labeled with an integration (shelly) you are listed as a codeowner for? Thanks!

I hid comments related to specifics of MQTT basic schema light and how Tasmota interprets the commands (#50316), let's keep that discussion there.

@PaoloTK can you please open a separate issue for WLED?
