ODROID M1S switch back to Hard Kernel Image

After following the documentation, I switched from the default Ubuntu image to the HAOS image. To test some things out, I want to switch back:

1. Flash HAOS to an SD card
2. Boot and get into HA CLI
3. Use login to enter the root shell
4. Download the UMS Utility image: ODROID-M1S_EMMC2UMS.img using curl and dd it to the eMMC

Now here's the problem: While I can download the image, I get a failure writing to the output:

Failure writing output to destination, passed 16384 returned 0

I can see /dev/mmcblk0 being there and having 58.2G in size, when using lsblk -p, so that's not the problem.

Any hint what I could be missing? Thank you in advance.
