0.9.9-beta branch is open!

This is a guide to the 0.9.9 Beta, adapted from a Twitter thread.

Some New Branches

Repository branches changed a bit overnight:

• main contains 0.9.8 until 0.9.9 is finalized and released after the beta.
• Branch 0.9.9-beta has parts for 0.9.9 that are fit tested to some degree.
• Bugs may still exist, but at this point are likely not showstoppers or simply cosmetic.
• Branch 0.9.9-unstable is an ephemeral world of risk and reward.

Getting Started

• If you want to print an 0.9.9 case (and I hope you do), start in 0.9.9-beta.
• If a part is missing, check the 0.9.9-unstable branch.
• Unstable parts may be working but not finalized e.g., the bottom panels in unstable work, but the design may change before release.

I'm actually working on the bottom panels today. 🤷‍♂️

Using parts from 0.9.9-unstable

If you reach into unstable to find something, it could be that the part:

• Works but the design may change
• May work but needs testing
• Works but is waiting on documentation before merging

If you do print something from unstable:

• let me know how it goes on the GitHub Discussions page or Twitter.
• A picture is appreciated but not required.
• Once something is tested, it goes into 0.9.9-stable.

Docs for 0.9.9

• The docs underwent a complete makeover and much was rewritten.
• There are also entirely new assembly docs that are not complete.
• I will host a daily snapshot of the beta docs in a different location.
• These will be available in a day or two.

Finishing the Docs

The illustrations images are now generated in Fusion. This makes updating them between versions easier, but I have to spend time getting it right initially.

I'm also adding more info to help with variations during assembly, so the assembly docs are necessarily longer. Assembly doesn't take much longer, despite the addition of some new parts and the longer documentation.

What's Left & Release Date

Release hinges on the documentation being completed. If I finish sooner, I'll release sooner. Parts not yet tested can go in a point release (0.9.9.1).

This is always contingent on issues found during use & feedback.

I am leaving out a specific date intentionally, but I'd like to finalize and release 0.9.9 before December.

Lastly

I'm always available for questions or feedback. If you have an idea (about the case OR documentation), please share. Some of the best features of OmniBox are user suggestions, and I even have a backlog of more to implement!
