The second chapter of the project is focused on a deep review of the geometry, solutions and singularities of the Lambert's problem. Main references for this chapter are:

  • Introduction to the theory of flight of artificial Earth satellites, by El'iasberg, Pavel Efimovich.
  • An introduction to the mathematics and methods of astrodynamics, by Battin, R. H.
  • Methods of orbit determination, by Pedro Ramon Escobal.

These are probably the most accurate works when it comes to Lambert's problem, in particular the first one.

This chapter will be divided in the following sections:

  • The problem to be solved.
  • Geometry of the problem.
  • Elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic.
  • Singularities.
  • Resume table of all possible solutions.
