I noticed that some links in the docs were broken, so I fixed them in this PR.
To verify the links, I used markdown-link-check.
I also removed some trailing whitespace in the docs.

Had to rebase and fix some conflicts after merging #345, but this is good to go now! Merging!

  `re.search` instead of `re.match` semantics for all rules. (#254)
