The gui variants already use winiov2; seems like it needs to be documented though! |

Ah, thanks. From the text one gets the impression you should use the winIOv2 variant as a new window user, or when in doubt. There is only one file named winIOv2. The 4 relevant exe versions are named ...gui..., ...gui...wintercept..., gui...cmdallowed and ...gui...wintercept...commandallowed. So it is not clear that one of them (or even all?) are gui...winIOv2... variants if I understand you correct. Ah, I stand corrected. The instructions already mention that in the text
But due the naming scheme used the impression is made that each name lists all compile options. :-) Maybe either to directly place the explanation sentence after the one, which recommends to use winIOv2 or / and to even include winIOv2 in the naming scheme of the GUI variants as well. Or you could just decide to make winIOv2 the default by naming it just kanata.exe and changing the original kanata.exe to kanata-old-config.exe or kanata-deprecated.exe or something like that, which makes clear that this version is only there for users with old config files (that is my understanding, correct me if I am wrong). Renaming the winIOv2 to kanata.exe would automatically make that the default with the current description. And instead of first telling users to download kanata.exe and then later to tell that if you are a new user you should use winIOv2 and in the last sentence to mention that the GUI version uses that as well. That makes the relevant information harder to find. I even think the GUI version should be the standard version named kanata.exe. The non-GUI version could then be named kanata-shell.exe and in the short description it can be mentioned that when developing a layout this can be useful to use instead of the GUI version, because it shows the active layer. But for daily use for a typical Windows user the GUI variant (winIOv2 of course) would be the most logical choice, isn't it? |

Is there a reason there is no precompiled exe with those two options? It looks to me that should be the standard version for most Windows users?
