A way to empty selected list after, I change items list

Even when I pass the selectedItems prop as a state, and then empty it, it does not re-render.
I want the selectedItems to empty out when I change the itemsList after a fetch call

the list starts out full

but when I make fetch call following user's choices, I change the the itemsList

I want to reset the selecteditemeslist, even though it shows says none Selected, and when I check the selected i find empty, the html for the selected does not reflect that
