There are few if any docs for dbus-python that are up-to-date.

Tiny "hello world" tutorial:

Perhap PyGObject/PyGI with gdbus would be better after all, since you 
should be able to use gdbus C docs more directly? 
(e.g. GIO's g_dbus_proxy_new_sync becomes PyGI's Gio.DBusProxy.new_sync)
