Viewing a pinned message - or, more generally, I suspect, viewing any message such as

https://matrix.to/#/!IwPxifXSjBLghpVEMh:matrix.org/$woS2tgGLRtJqS7lNzd1DZkT2aeRm_MV916V-WJhXn-w?via=midnightthoughts.space&via=matrix.org&via=mozilla.org

will load the entire history to that point, which may take anything between seconds and weeks. Compare Element Web, which jumps directly to the specified message by resolving the node.
