Feature request: Button to delete your own forum posts #4936
Comments
I don't know whether or not this is by design. Possibly it might create more work for moderators if users can write offensive things or start flame wars, then delete what they have written; I don't know why it was coded the way it is. |
The original post wouldn't delete for administrator / moderator, they could see it while the normal users not. So don't need to change the etiquette rules. The trolls would be banned from Lichess as now. |
Why can't you edit your post? Edit it to "Oops, I didn't want to say anything." How can this be offensive? |
It can be offensive because a user writes something like: ... leaves the text there, and then 1 minute before a moderator swoops in changes the message (and repeats this process in a dozen other comments, constantly swearing and offending users and preventing moderators from seeing reported comments). |
If I get the OP correct, then delete button is for well intentioned users who accidentally write something offensive. The presence of the delete button won't stop abusive users from editing there messages back and forth between offensive and innocent messages. If the latter is the problem then the solution is keeping track of edit history ( much the same way as GitHub keeps track of it in this very thread ). |
It's possible to edit forum posts, which is strictly more powerful than just deleting them. Also see #931. |
Hello,
I would like to ask you to create a button for delete your own forum post. Sometimes happen, you write something wrong or weird, but you can't delete it. That's annoying. Furthermore, the moderators has lesser work if the users can fix his / her own problem by hisself / herself.
Thanks, keep up the good work!
