This issue was opened by a bot after a user submitted feedback through the in-app form.

From: wangweizhong123@gmail.com

Message:

It's really good app overall, which provides Mac OS users a really efficient and elegant way to multi task. I think it would be good if Alt-tab can include a blank pop-up when no apps is running. Right now, if no windows are present, the alt-tab won't show up.

Replied to the author:

Could you elaborate a bit on the "blank pop-up"? How would it look like exactly? Also what is the benefits compared to not showing anything? Windows 10 for instance doesn't show anything where there are no windows.

The author replied:

Maybe it could show ’No windows available/opened’ in the center of the pop-up window. For me, if I don’t see any response from Alt-tab, I would assume Alt-tab isn’t running properly or it’s hanging there. I agree that Windows 10 might not show nothing if there are no windows. Being consistency with Mission Control in Mac OS where it shows ’no available windows’ if nothing is opened, it would be a very good experience that feeling Alt-tab is fully embedded in the system.

While it's interesting to be consistent with Mission Control, I'm thinking about the cost it would add:

  • More code, more complexity to maintain
  • More text that needs to be localized. We have already 14 languages onboard

Implementing #354 would solve this problem

Implementing #354 would solve this problem

@lwouis I don't really support the proposal in #354. Showing the option for a new Finder window would be quite useless.

What most users want is perhaps some indication that there are no open windows (or running programs), just like what Mission Control does:
