Investigate the use of SMI (ServiceMesh Interface)

SMI Spec will let us use multiple mesh implementation by using unified API instead of being coupled with Istio as we are right now.

SMI provides Istio adapter (operator) which takes care of translating SMI objects to Istio ones on the fly.

First steps

• get the feeling about the effort involved in the code changes
• required infra changes (operator installation etc)
• document what is possible with SMI right now and what are the gaps for us (if any)
