Hi, thanks for this guide, it is the only one that addresses this specific setup step by step. I followed your instructions however I received an error message after clicking "Add Account" Authentication failed. Please check your username/password. In the field "SMTP Server:" "route2.mx.cloudflare.net" was already listed. Do I still need to change that to smtp.gmail.com? In my case I want to setup an alias fir replying to emails sent through my plugin WP SMTP mailer, so maybe the setup is different?

@DougCapron thanks, I don't think its something to do with WP SMTP, do you have 2FA enabled on your Google account? if so, you have to use app password instead of your passport

[Update] Hi Mansoor, I created a new App password and followed your instructions again and I finally got the confirmation sent from Gmail Team. That saved me a couple of days at least of having to figure it out. Thanks a million again for posting this guide. The only problem is I tried to send a message through my contact form and I received the error message: "Your submission failed because of a server error.
An error occured.
Email Your submission failed because of a server error...."

Although I think this has to do with my SMTP plugin because in they are now asking me to " re-grant Google app permissions....Remove OAuth Connection.... and re-enable access. "

One question I would like to ask you is when I was going through the Cloudfare email setup I was asked to delete 2 records:

An MX record, Hostname was my domain (******.com) and Value was also my domain

the other was a TXT record:

Hostname: my domain and value: "v=spf1 ip***...* a mx include:websitewelcome.com include:relay.mailchannels.net ~all

Would I need to add those records again at some point, did you also have to delete those records?

you can only use one email service at a time && those records are for a email service. If that plugin asked you to add those records in the past then that means that either you can use that plugin or Cloudflare. My mini research didn't mention that WP SMTP plugin asks to change DNS records so I don't know why they were there.

Since it says that there is a OAuth connection issue, it might be that you have to enter your app password on WP SMTP as well. @DougCapron

also on a side note, if you really want an email with your domain, try using Zoho Mail. That's what I am currently using and its separate from your Google account. Article: https://mansoorbarri.com/guides/professional-email-for-free/

Thanks Mansoor, that helps to understand. I will know more tomorrow when I go through the WPSMTP re-enable process. I had considered ZOHO but my client wants to manage everything through his gmail account, but he may be open to an alternative to gmail down the road, and he could always have his gmail emails forwarded to his ZOHO account. I appreciate very much your time and energy helping us out. I will keep you posted. Cheers
