Gyms and fitness centers for exercise are common throughout the world, but there is no maki icon that represents this well.

Tried an alternative approach to see if smaller dumbbells would be more recognizable than the bigger (and thinner) weights for bench press.

I tried incorporating some negative space based on Nat’s concept, but find that making the shape more ambiguous (might be a result of staring at it for too long):

Would love to do one more iteration and play a bit more with the gray/half-pixels/off-grid shapes.

@rasagy without using a shield or billboard for these icons, as they are styled in the Mapbox Streets style, these mainly stroke icons will most likely appear a bit thin and get lost. I wonder if considering a thicker massing of the barbells would help this, or perhaps a quick test/mock up to see what these icons look like on a map?

@rasagy I would consider adding either 1 px or 0.5 px of negative space in-between the individual weights on the weight bar. This might help with the silhouette legibility.
