I have come across many different pronunciation for SSSOM ("Tripple-Es Oh Em", "Es Es Es Oh Em", "Es Es Som" are more). This can sometimes cause some mild confusion, in particular when there is no written form accompanying the spoken words. During one of the discussions on how to properly pronounce the standard, I took a look at the FAQ, where I would have assumed to find a clarification on the topic but I didn't find any recommended pronunciation there. So I hereby suggest to add one. And for the time being I will stay with "Tripple-Es Oh Em" (analog to IIIF being called "Triple I Ef")until somebody suggest that there is a different and preferred pronunciation.

Sorry, I just realized that I selected the wrong repo, My mistake. I will raise the issue over at https://github.com/mapping-commons/mapping-commons.github.io .

Thank you @DavidFichtmueller for reaching out. This is a better place to discuss this.

There is no definite answer to this question. As you can see from all my presentations I have about SSSOM I personally use "SE-somm". The second most frequent use (FAIR data community a lot) is the unwieldy ES-ES-ES-OH-EMM.

Here is a short intro I gave with an ugly German accent https://youtu.be/T-YP-Lv9k2s?feature=shared

Here is also the @mapping-commons/sssom-core team certified pronunciation chart by @gouttegd.

Thanks. This helps. There is no one correct pronunciation and people are free to chose which ever way they prefer. (But this doesn't mean that I will stop silently judging people who pronounce it differently).

Maybe it is still worth adding this question to the FAQ, with the answer that there is no suggested way to pronounce it (and maybe even add this chart).

The best pronunciation is "sessom". The chart is amusing, but will just add more confusion.
