Mega get does not download files, it just hangs until I force cancell

Steps

1. run mega get, for example mega get <public link>

Expected behavior

regular download progress messages being printed to the screen as the file downloads

Actual behavior

After pressing mega get <public link> to execute the commad, Mega just hang, nothing is printed. The prompt never returns either until I force cancell. Also when I check the directory the file is meant to be stored in, there is nothing there, not temporary file, nothing.

I have tried force restarting the server, and restarted my PC couple of times, at best after running mega get <public link> I get the following message and then Mega just hangs forever and until I have to cancell:
