@avikmjd2 ,
Windows keeps a cache of the thumbnails that are already created.
Might this be what you are experiencing?
If you copy a PDF file, does its thumbnail get generated as well?

Can confirm, copying a file with thumbnail does not show preview.

Is there an easy way to clear this? my desktop feels incredibly unfamiliar with this previews

Method 1 worked well for me (needed to refresh after clearing thumbnail cache)

Thanks for the feedback @twig.
Closing the issue, as this is expected Windows behavior.

Hmm, would be helpful to add a note near the toggle switch in case others experience the same confusion.

I've been using Windows for a very long time and it still caught me off guard.

Would have expected the thumbnails to disappear right after unticking it (or at least a reboot).

No, Its not showing the thumbnail. I forgot to delete the thumbnail cache. After clearing the cache its not showing preview. Thanks for helping!
