Zones Change Size/Shrink on Multi-Monitor Setup with Portrait Monitor #19423

PowerToysReport_2022-07-14-17-49-29.zip |
@phoenix1120 am I get it right that the issue happens when the editor is opened? If you save the layout and just close the editor, will they stay on the correct places? |
Not exactly. The act of saving and closing the editor causes the issue to occur once. It seems that they will then stay like that if I leave it alone, but the zones are still slightly off from the way I meticulously set them, which triggers my OCD. |
Hi, I am the author of the thread "FancyZones shift again and again after saving": I can confirm that the more you open, close, open, close, open, close the editor with Windows+Y, the more the spacing actually increases. Each time, the zones shift, or in my case, the distance to the taskbar increases and increases. So it's really the same problem as in my thread. |
It does seem to be the same problem. For me, I have 3 overlapping zones on the top half of a portrait monitor, and 3 more on the bottom half. It seems that every time it shrinks all zones by 1 pixel horizontally and 2 pixels vertically. And the shrinks them regardless of whether that layout is selected, and it seems to happen when you switch the selected monitor to the main monitor, so opening the settings is all it takes to do it. So basically, I have to set the layout on the secondary monitor, then close the settings and never open it again, otherwise it gets all screwed up. It still does it on the latest version too (v0.61.0) |
If a cause and possibly thereby a solution to the problem has been found, it would be nice if a brief notification is given here. |
Any news about this? |
I think I've located where the problem is. Would you like to try the unsigned build to check if the problem was fixed? |
@SeraphimaZykova I'm happy to help, but I don't install beta software (or unsigned builds) on my production PC. |
@SeraphimaZykova Do you know when the update with the bug fix will be released? The problem is really annoying, I practically can't place my windows correctly anymore. |
Releases come out monthly, usually at the end of the month or at the beginning of the next month. |
Thanks for the notice! |
The latest update has solved the problem :-) Thanks! |
Microsoft PowerToys version

Area(s) with issue?
FancyZones
Steps to reproduce
Seems to happen on multi-monitor setups (though may not be required), and seems to only happen on my secondary monitor when I have it in portrait mode only. I setup the zones the way I want them, then save and close the editor. If I then close and open the editor again or switch to a different monitor and then back again, I can see that all the zones that I meticulously sized and placed have now changed size slightly and moved slightly. Repeating this process causes the resizing/moving to reoccur and shrink even more, causing the zones to be vastly different from how I'd originally sized/positioned them.
✔️ Expected Behavior
Sized/positioned zones maintain their size and position after saving.
❌ Actual Behavior
Sized/positioned zones shrink in size and move slightly, not respecting user's saved layout.
