Admin mode not really working #20938
Comments
Btw - I did a search of the repository but didn't find this bug being reported. OS: Win11 version 10.0.22000 on surface pro8. |
I think this is the same as this issue; #20457 |
Thanks, this is a bigger issue unfortunately. It NEVER lets me change video conference mute settingss unfortunately bcoz it behaves like it never signs in as admin regardless if i provide admin creds/ run as admin from exe or restart as admin. Admin mode not really working - at all. Cheers! |
I am also facing this issue. Same expected and actual behavior as @ninbong. Win 11 21H2 22000.978 |
I am having this same issue on a domain joined Windows 10 Business 21H1 10.0.19043 |
VCM is in maintenance mode and we will only resolve a small amount of adjustments from the core team moving forward, please see #21473. We will accept community contributions to resolve issues |
Microsoft PowerToys version
0.62.1
Running as admin
Area(s) with issue?
Settings
Steps to reproduce
On win11:
Install PowerToys from store while signed in as non-admin user, but running the store as administrator connected remotely, entering the right credentials on the local account to "run as admin".
or Install PowerToys from github while signed in as non-admin user, but running the installer as administrator connected remotely, entering the right credentials on the local account to "run as admin".
Get full version of powertoys 0.62.1 with the shortcut called "Powertoys (Preview)", with the shortcut directing to "C:\Program Files\PowerToys\PowerToys.exe".
Run PowerToys as Administrator connected remotely, but entering the right credentials on the local account to "run as admin".
Go to Video Conference Mute Settings, see "You need to sign in as administrator to modify these settings"
Go to "General" in settings, Restart as administrator, provide the administrator credentials on the local account*.
Go to Video Conference Mute Settings, see "You need to sign in as administrator to modify these settings" again
Go to "General" in settings, with "Restart as administrator" now greyed out.
Go to Video Conference Mute Settings again, see "You need to sign in as administrator to modify these settings" again.
Toggle "always run as administrator", go to another tab in "settings" go back, see the toggle still on.
Minimize PowerToys, open from Win11 tray, go back to "general", now the ""always run as administrator" toggle showing "off".
*This means a local user is signed in to windows 11, but the administrator provides ADMIN credentials to run the PowerTohs installer as well as PowerToys.exe.
✔️ Expected Behavior
Just run in administrator mode instead of pretending to run in admin but not allowing to modify settings.
❌ Actual Behavior
Admin mode seems not to turn on despite running app as admin. Interestingly, some functions like Keyboard manager DO work, but the Video Conference Mute keeps showing "administrator mode" required.
Other Software
Nope, just PowerToys
