PowerToys not updating after reverting back from Windows 11 to Windows 10 #24213
Comments
I am having the same issue can't uninstall and cannot get it to extract or recognize the corresponding version .msi file my version is 0.59.0 |
So I figured it out and using the Program and Features Troubleshooter in solution 3 of the first article liked above, worked for me, I did the uninstall first on the troubleshooter and it works, did Disk Clean up, and restarted. Then installed PowerToys 0.67.1 and everything ran fine, until Quick Accent and PowerToys Run were not working, turns out PowerToys Installer wasn't running at all. But after a normal uninstall in control panel, and reinstall on the same .exe file. It fixed itself when I disabled run with admin. Now, as to why it caused network resource is unavailable is unbeknownst to me. But I found out why the PowerToys Installer wasn't running in this thread. #9017 Hope this helps others who reverted back to Windows 10 from Windows 11. |
Can you confirm this is still an issue with PowerToys v0.72? /needinfo |

Steps to reproduce
After installing PowerToys from the Microsoft Store pre-Windows 11 upgrade, I had setup a few things such as PowerToys Run and Quick Accent, I then enabled run as administrator and run at startup. Then once I tried out Windows 11, I found that a feature I need for class wasn't working on Windows 11 which was Quick Assist, it would load, but the window would stay blank. I then thought it was an issue with Windows 11 and reverted back to Windows 10 via the option in the Update settings area of Windows 11. But even after reverting back to windows 10, I had the same issue still with Quick Assist. Oddly enough, everything else worked fine, until I tried uninstalling Windows PC Health Check that is now a blank icon in control panel Uninstall Program section.
Now it was at this point I realized, I messed up reverting back to Windows 10 from Windows 11, because when I try to update, uninstall, or install any version of PowerToys, the same message will appear "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." Then ask to click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'PowerToysSetup-0.57.2-x64.msi' in the box below. I looked in C:\ProgramData\Package Cache and that particular installation package is not there. but by default, it is set as "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache{504D817D-2ED1-4914-84D5-510D314AAD40}v0.57.2" in the box. When I click OK, it errors out saying there's nothing there.
This will happen, no matter what I do, I searched to see what I could find and came across these two articles
https://appuals.com/fix-the-feature-you-are-trying-to-use-in-on-a-network-resource-that-is-unavailable/
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-or-disable-windows-installer-service-on-windows-10
I checked Windows Installer service, and it was set to manual start, but was running. I could not change the service to run on automatic as it was greyed out. I then ran the commandprompt from the second article and it fixed the service to run on automatic, but I still had the same "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
Now, PowerToys does run when opening it from the shortcut in the desktop. but it will not update or uninstall.
✔️ Expected Behavior
To update PowerToys to the latest version
❌ Actual Behavior
Got a "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." prompt
Other Software
No response
