Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes/No

  • VS Code Version: 1.81.0
  • OS Version: Windows 11

Whenever I used the "code" command in "Command Prompt", it doesn't let me use "exit". Instead of closing the terminal window it just hangs, I can't even do "ctrl + c" to stop it. It doesn't let me use exit until after I've closed the VS code window. It's quite annoying.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Use the "code" command to open a vscode window
  2. Try using the "exit" command.

Thanks for reporting this issue! Unfortunately, it's hard for us to understand what issue you're seeing. Please help us out by providing a screen recording showing exactly what isn't working as expected. While we can work with most standard formats, .gif files are preferred as they are displayed inline on GitHub. You may find https://gifcap.dev helpful as a browser-based gif recording tool.

If the issue depends on keyboard input, you can help us by enabling screencast mode for the recording (Developer: Toggle Screencast Mode in the command palette). Lastly, please attach this file via the GitHub web interface as emailed responses will strip files out from the issue.

Happy coding!

Is it fine if I send an mp4 instead?

Sure, just make it available as a link here.

As you can see, Command Prompt closed once the vscode window it opened closed. Any other Command Prompt window closes just fine, but the cmd window that was used to open vscode doesn't close until the vscode window it opened closes.

Strange, I have never seen such an issue before. Moving to some people that might know better.

Do you ever see this with other executables?

No, it doesn't happen with other executables.

Any update on why it happens?
