A user wrote in to complain about this, specifically in Linux.

@aliceriot investigated. From Slack:

when I load a video, e.g. this one, chromium's GPU process spikes really high, not sure what's going on. it's somehting to do with rendering hte UI itself though I think, because it does it

  • when the video is not playing and
  • only when I actually have the tab focused (meaning switching to another tab causes it to go down to background levels)

ran a chrome performance thingy on it, looks like its something in raven.js
