[ESC] - switch to command mode
i - insert mode (before cursor)
a - append after cursor
:w - write to file / save
:q - quit if OK
:q! - force quit
G - jump to end of file
gg - jump to beginning of file
<x>G - jump to line x (or <x>gg)
/<text> - search for text (?<text> searches going backward)
n - continue with next search result
N - previous search result
0 - jump to beginning of line
$ - jump to end of line
w - jump to next word
e - jump to end of following word
b - jump to previous word
<x>w/e/b - jump x times according to w, e or b
o - create new line after current one jump there and go to insert mode (O - do the same without goint into insert mode)
v - select text (v followed by a jump command selects amount of text accordingly. jump can be prepended by a number) (v<number>w/e/b/0/$/g/gg)
d - delete selection / cut
dd - delete current line
P - paste before cursor (p after)
y - copy
dw/0/$/gg/gg - delete word, till beginning of line, till end of line, till beginning of file, till end of file
u - undo
[CTRL]+r - redo
`. - jump to location of last edit
:%s/searchtext/replacementtext/g - search and replace ( :%s/searchtext/replacementtext/gc - confirm first )
[CTRL]+d - move down half a page
[CTRL]+u - move up half a page
f<char> - search for next character in this line (F<char> - previous char)
I/A - insert at beginning of line / append at end of line
r - replace current char with input char without entering insert mode
c - delete selection and enter insert mode
x - delete
X - backspace
. - repeat last command
% - jump to matching brace, paranthases, multiline comment etc

TODO: configure programming language compile error highlighting and maybe autocomplete suggestions (I don't think vim can also show you function definitions and function locations, but try to get that working anyway)
