Bug description

In a new Kubuntu 22.04 install, I installed the packages using the Nextcloud development team PPA (https://launchpad.net/~nextcloud-devs/+archive/ubuntu/client ), including the nextcloud-client-dolphin package. However, the nextcloud context menu does not always appear when I right click a Nextcloud folder.

When launching dolphin from a command line, and I right click on a folder, I get the following warning:
kf.kio.widgets: The "NextcloudAction" plugin still installs the desktop file for plugin loading. Please use JSON metadata instead, see KAbstractFileItemActionPlugin class docs for instructions.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install Kubuntu 22.04.
  2. Add [“Nextcloud development” team] PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nextcloud-devs/client
sudo apt-get update
  1. Install nextcloud and the dolphin plugin:
sudo apt install nextcloud-desktop nextcloud-client-dolphin
  1. Launch the client, and log in into your account. Wait until the sync finishes
  2. Open Dolphin file manager, enter the Nextcloud folder. Right click on any subfolder or file.

Expected behavior

Nextcloud's context menu should appear. But it's not always the case.

Hi, @ivaradi , I saw that you worked with this plugin in the past. Could you have a look at this?

Any news on this issue? The Nextcloud context menu in Dolphin is still missing after updating the 3.7.1 client.

I have just checked with the KUbuntu 22.04 live CD, and it works for me there. Icons are displayed on the folders, and the context menus have a Nextcloud entry.

That's weird. I see the icons, but I don't see any context menu (I remember I saw it once, months ago, but it just disappeared). How could I troubleshoot it?

@ivaradi, did you try with the Appimage, or the client from ppa:nextcloud-devs/client?

I have the same behavior here but no icon as well. Everything gets synced but having no context menu for nextcloud makes things hard when it comes to sharing files with a link.

Ubuntu 23.10, Nextcloud Desktop Client 3.9.0

Anyone going after this? Its apita right now, as I cant download single files, but always make the whole folder available offline... which is a hussle on remote location with poor connectivity on a laptop with restricted available file space :/

I noticed the context menu appeared if the virtual files support was disabled. So maybe that could be the reason.

i'm also frustrated. sure this is an experimental feature on linux but it's annoying. today it disappeared also for me. and when i tried to download the 90gb folder through my browser it took hours, my browser was lagging as hell just to realize after 4-5 hours downloading i had an connection error and the whole download stopped. idk if they will fix it any time soon, but as i can see this is a really important feature for people and that's the only reason i'm still using nextcloud...

bumping this issue. I'm dealing with this and #5949 at the same time. It could be issues with QT6 and the recent KDE 6 update, but i may remember using this feature not long after i updated. i experienced this issue on nautilus too. the context feature and cloud features must work in my file manager, its a key feature for me with nextcloud and one of the main reasons why i use it.
