Hi,
When is the support for Nextcloud 22 coming?
The beta is from 18 June.
Alternatively, is the functionality also available with circles?

nextcloud project is adding many and many features but core features are not working 100%. Like having a car with beautiful infotainment but gear shift is not working and motor is slow. Why releasing a new major version when the last 2 are still not working? I am confused.

Groupfolders works without problems for me, after upgrading to Nextcloud 22. I still agree, that it should be updated in the App Store to show compatibility for everyone.

How do you get groupfolders working in Nextcloud 22, without groupfolder app? Are you using the beta Version of groupfolder App?

You can enable the untested app anyway. Go to Apps and then to Disabled apps. url: /settings/apps/disabled

Is this really working? I experienced the exact same problem when unintentionally upgrading the Docker image. I also re-enabled the app and the group folders reappeared but it seems to be impossible to create new groups?

Personally, I'd try to switch to beta, install groupfolders 10beta and switch back to release rather than using the app intended for NC21 and override its version.

Is it better to user Group folders or External storage with a local-filesystem-server-stored folder? At least External storage is supported.

Does the file system also support permissions with Nextcloud groups? Then it would be a good alternative.

No, External storage is quite more rudimentary. That's a +1 for Group folders! (ACLs)

A bump on this one. It would be good if there would be a final nc22 release of this app.

@ChristophWurst Bump: stable is now 22.1.0 and rc is 22.1.1

Since we will have this problem again with the next release.
Wouldn't it make more sense to have a version with a slimmed down version scope.
The following idea:

  • App creates a hidden user
  • App uses the normal sharing mechanism for the folders
  • App provides an admin interface

Advantage:

  • Mechanisms should be mostly in place, thus easier to maintain

Disadvantage:

  • there are no more ACLs within the folders

While I understand the resource limitation an reasoning, the proposed "solution" is what creative users may manage themselves using impersonate. Personally, I see the main advantage of "Group Folders" in the ability to have a common path but limit access to subfolders. Since Group folders is a NC officially supported app and was announced (agreeably long ago) as NC feature ("file server replacement"), abandoning it would be a major issue for quite some organizations. But yes, rather have a clear picture of the future that migrating productive systems to an unsupported beta version. Just my 2ct.

Yes, I miss the future security, maybe it was the last version.
We want to migrate to Nextcloud soon and that would be one of the key features, but right now I'm thinking about creating a user for it. Then there are just no ACLs, which is also a pity.

Well I'm surprised. 22.1.1, still not working. 😮

As shown in #1215 there sadly seems to be quite a lack of interest by nextcloud to tackle the problems of this app. I honestly don't know how this will correspond with their involvement in the Gaia-X-Project https://nextcloud.com/blog/nextcloud-beat-us-hyperscalers-as-collaboration-platform-for-eu-digital-sovereignty-project-gaia-x/ 🤔

Also because of instabilties with the desktop-app, we therefore decided earlier this week to abandon nextcloud as our cloudstructure in favour of a more mature software for our company. It looks like nextcloud is more and more stuck in a featuritis-development-spiral and neglecting stabilizing the software. Sadly I've often seen this happening in the past 30 years.

So I wish all NC-developers all the best. 😢

@enoch85 https://github.com/nextcloud/groupfolders/releases/tag/v10.0.0-beta1 should be working and afaik @juliushaertl is working on the stable release atm.
