Hi stefan,

Hope all is well. I would like to request an option to allow the user to use the app as an offline standalone notes app without the need for a Nextcloud account.

The motive: If we envision the best privacy-respecting phone in the future, it would have Nextcloud Notes on it, and just like many users today use Samsung Notes without a Samsung account, it would make sense for Nextcloud Notes to be able to do the same.

Thank you in advance,
Kind regards.

I like that idea. It should be easy to implement after #599 is finished:

  • local notes could have account ID 0
  • the account list in sidebar includes a "fake" account for local notes
  • synchronization has to skip that account
  • it would be nice if one could move notes between accounts

We should make sure though that:

  • The default is somehow to make it very easy and straightforward to connect to your Nextcloud so that your notes are synced
  • It is absolutely clear if notes are not synced because you are not connected
  • If you have an account connected already and no "local" notes, we need to check that it’s not so possible to accidentally move a note from being synced to not synced

One can easily bulk move all Notesfrom a local account to another (synced) account, so there is no problem, even if a user starts with a local account.

But i agree, that the user must be propted to add a sync account at the very first start of the app (like it is now). Just in case he cancels the import dialog, he can use the local account.

Thank you for developing this app. Ive been using it for some time and have been very happy with it. Like others in this context, I too am moving from Nextcloud to syncing with my PC using Syncthing. Ive really gotten used to using this app and would very much appreciate if I could use a local folder to store my notes and without a Nextcloud account. Thank you and best of luck on your future developments.
